Put Movies on a Blank DVD

So you just downloaded that movie you were looking for? Just put together a 4 hour montage of your last family vacation? Great. Now you have to put it on a disc.

Steps

  1. Choose a DVD type that fits your computer. Some DVD burners cannot read or write a certain type, such as DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, etc. A quick rule of thumb: R usually means that the disc can only be written on once. It cannot be erased. An RW disc can be used, erased, and re-used, some up to a thousand times.

  2. Find a program that can burn DVDs. One probably came with your PC if you are using Windows Vista or Mac OS. Alternatively, you can use a third-party program for burning. A good suggestion is Nero, a very useful burner, although it does cost a good amount of money. Another great option is DivX. A very fast and reliable burner. It also formats your movies in a way that you are not limited to only the 120 minutes of video. If your video is 700 Mbs for example, you can fit up to 6 movies of the same size on one disc. This program is free, but does require a cheap DVD player to decode the disc.

  3. After you buy or download the software, and purchase the discs, put the disc into your DVD burner. Run your software, and follow the directions. Each programs may differ slightly, but in the end, the movie will be on the DVD.

Tips

  • If you (not legal… but I’m sure that’s why you are here) downloaded the movie as a torrent, make sure it is in the right format to be put on a DVD. Message the original uploader asking about it.
  • If you mess up, try using a different codec. Consult the “help” section of your program for this.

Warnings

  • If you did download the movie as a torrent; make sure it’s a good torrent. Many try to put malicious information that may harm your computer. Use a trusted site, such as torrentspy.com, and a trusted uploader, such as aXXo.

Things You’ll Need

  • Discs. DVD or CD. Your choice.
  • Computer. To… run the software.
  • Software. To burn the movie onto the disc.
  • Patience. The process may take a few minutes, to an hour, depending on your system.
